Gateway is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit rehabilitation corporation providing services
to children, teens, adults and their families. We assist people with disabilities and
other barriers to achieve their potential through therapeutic program, vocational opportunities,
training, community life skills and other supports.
Gateway was established in 1974 through the efforts of some parents who
wanted to have vocational training opportunities for their children after leaving
the school system. In 2005, Gateway merged with Milestones, which had been established
in 1932 as Berrien County Crippled Children's Society by the Rotary Club of St. Joseph/Benton Harbor.
The Merger enabled Gateway to provide an array of services to a broad spectrum of persons,
from early childhood on.
Gateway is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that is representative of
the community. The directors oversee the review of the policies fiscal management and
effectiveness of the organization.
Gateway is accredited by CARF International, the Rehabilitation Accredidation
Commission in the following selected programs:

Gateway is a United Way Partner Agency supported through United Way funding,
Medicaid funding, private contracts and private donations.
